There aren't many things more frustrating than an air conditioning that refuses to run. A hot, muggy home can make your space incredibly uncomfortable, which is why I have always focused on maintaining my air conditioning system. Unfortunately, I still run into problems from time to time and I am sure that all of you do, which is one of the reasons I decided to build this website. Check out these posts for more information about keeping your system working beautifully, even if you aren't naturally good at fixing things. You never know, making the right changes could dramatically improve your summertime experience.

The summer sun has been beating down exceptionally hard this year on many parts of the country with no real signs that it plans on stopping any time soon. With many people experiencing prolonged heatwaves, it is no wonder that homeowners are concerned about making sure their home's air conditioning system is in tip-top shape. Thankfully, keeping your cooling system running smoothly can be made quite simple with the help of the three simple maintenance tips discussed below.
Check Your Air Filter Each Month
Perhaps the most important step you can take to ensure your air conditioning system stays running smoothly is to ensure your air filter is cleaned or changed as necessary. The problem is, the need to check this filter can often fall into the out of sight, out of mind category. To make sure you never forget to check your filter each month it is a good idea to associate paying your electric bill with the need to complete this task. Making this association is really quite simple since you are bound to see an increase in your energy bills if you fail to maintain your air filter.
When checking your air filter simply remove the filter and hold it up approximately an arm's length in front of you. If you are able to easily see through the filter it is good for another month. However, if the filter is too soiled to easily see through, you will need to replace or clean the filter to ensure your air conditioning system is able to maintain proper air flow.
Keep Your Condenser Free From Debris
Your home's air conditioning system is made up of both an indoor unit and an outdoor condenser unit. If you wish to keep your air conditioning system running at maximum efficiency, you will need to properly maintain both of these units. The most important thing when it comes to maintaining your outdoor unit is to keep it free from debris. This means keeping any weeds and grass from growing into the unit and taking the time to rinse away loose dirt and debris every few months using a garden hose.
Don't Forget to Schedule an Annual Service Call
While basic maintenance can and should be performed on a do-it-yourself basis throughout the summer months, it is also important to have your cooling system serviced by a professional contractor at least once a year. This annual service call will allow you to identify any potential problems before they get out of control by looking for parts that are showing excess signs of wear and tear. Your air conditioning contractor can also remove any debris that has built up inside the system so that it can perform its very best.
