Keeping Your HVAC System In Great Condition

There aren't many things more frustrating than an air conditioning that refuses to run. A hot, muggy home can make your space incredibly uncomfortable, which is why I have always focused on maintaining my air conditioning system. Unfortunately, I still run into problems from time to time and I am sure that all of you do, which is one of the reasons I decided to build this website. Check out these posts for more information about keeping your system working beautifully, even if you aren't naturally good at fixing things. You never know, making the right changes could dramatically improve your summertime experience.

Newer AC Unit Options That Help With Energy Efficiency

Herbert Franklin

If you have an older AC unit that you are looking to replace, then you should know that there are a wide variety of options available to you. And, many of these options allow for increased energy efficiency. If you want to know what some of these options are and how they can help you to save money, then keep reading.

Blower Speed Options

Many of the older AC units have blowers with a single speed, which means that your cooling system will either be on or off regardless of the amount of cool air you need in your house. This single speed means that the system needs to warm up, turn on, and cool the air. However, the system may only run for a very short period of time if it is not that hot out, and a great deal of energy is consumed in this way. This is especially true since the single speed is typically a higher one.

Newer AC systems have several different speeds that allow you to tailor your usage a bit more to what you actually require in terms of temperature control. So, you can utilize a lower speed in the spring and higher ones in the summer. Some units have variable speed functions that run automatically to ensure that you do not have to always change the functions yourself.

Keep in mind that energy efficiency is not the only benefit of a variable speed unit. They will also reduce the humidity in your home. Since the unit is running for a longer period of time, it does have the opportunity to pull more moisture from the air.

Larger Shaped Coils

The coils in your AC unit are responsible for transferring the heat from the air to the coolant. Many AC units will have a good deal of surface area to allow this to happen quickly and consistently. However, the older units were not shaped to maximize surface area in the same way that the newer units do, which allows for quicker heat transfer and lower energy usage.

So, make sure that your AC unit has an N-shaped coil or an oversized A-shape one. Also, the coil in your outdoor unit should be quite large as this will allow the coil to release its heat as efficiently as possible.

Keep in mind that coils do become larger the bigger the AC unit is. You do still want to make sure that the device is not oversized for your home, or you will end up wasting a good deal of energy.
