Top 3 Things That Can Make It Take Longer To Cool Your Home

Herbert Franklin

You rely on your home's HVAC system to keep your home comfortable. It is hard to get through a hot, humid day without a working AC. When an HVAC repair is needed, it can be a frustrating experience. There are several things that can cause an AC to malfunction. Thankfully, HVAC repair services can get most AC systems back operating. The following points represent underlying reasons your AC system may take longer to cool your home.

Blower Motor Issues

The blower motor in an HVAC system is responsible for circulating cool and warm air. If it is damaged, it will not be able to perform at its peak. The circulation process may still happen, but its performance will be diminished. If the blower motor is the culprit, you might hear strange screeching and/or grinding noises when you turn your HVAC system on. This is an issue that will get worse if it is not addressed. Continued operation will eventually result in needing to replace this important component of the HVAC system. This is why it is best to get this HVAC repair done as soon as the problem is identified.

Restricted Airflow

Blockages can occur in several places in an HVAC system. They negatively impact how air passes through the system. A commonplace of the system where clogs occur is in air filters. The air filter is the first place you should check if you notice that your home is cooling abnormally. You may find that changing a dirty air filter noticeably improves your cooling issue.

Refrigerant Issues

This is an issue that will have to be checked by an HVAC technician. Even if you could diagnose this issue, you would not be able to add the refrigerant because there are laws governing its usage, and only licensed professionals can add refrigerant to AC units. Sometimes low refrigerant levels are related to refrigerant leaks. If this is the case, you might notice ice buildup in your outdoor unit. You may also hear hissing noises as the refrigerant leaks on to critical parts of the unit.

An HVAC contractor is a good resource to use when your AC acts abnormally. It is best not to ignore signs of problems because they might get worse and require a more aggressive approach to making repairs. Regular maintenance is a good way to ward off mechanical failures and keep your AC running at its best.
